Curse of the Allflame brings 40 new challenges, and getting every cosmetic reward means working through them in a sensible order. This guide covers all 40 with their exact requirements, the fastest way to clear each one, and a phase-by-phase route from the campaign to a full 40/40.
You only need 36 of 40 for the complete set of milestone cosmetics. The final four are pure completionist territory. We’ll flag the cleanest skips so you can decide early where to stop.
Challenge Rewards
Every reward you earn here also carries over into Path of Exile 2. The cosmetics are visual only and never affect character power.
| Milestone | Reward |
| 12 Challenges | Oceanic Weapon Effect |
| 24 Challenges | Fangtooth Moray Pet |
| 32 Challenges | Captain’s Wheel Back Attachment |
| 36 Challenges | Oceanic Portal Effect |
| 19-40 Challenges | Allflame Challenger Trophy (a new variant unlocks at each tier) |
From challenge 19 onward, every third challenge also gives you a piece of the Curse of the Allflame Totem Pole hideout decoration. Hit 40/40 and the totem is complete and the trophy sits at its top tier.
The short version: 36 gets you every wearable cosmetic. 40 gets you the full totem and the top trophy tier.
How to Read This Guide
The 40 challenges are grouped into five phases that follow how you actually play a league, from your first act to your last uber kill. Work top to bottom and most of them finish on their own as you go.
Difficulty key:
- π’ Easy: finishes during normal play or takes a few minutes
- π‘ Average: needs deliberate mapping, scarabs, or a small currency dump
- π΄ Hard: endgame gated, grind heavy, or needs a strong build

Phase 1: The Campaign (Acts 1-10)
Everything here completes on the way to maps. Don’t overthink it, just don’t skip the optional act bosses.
1. Beginner’s Basics π’
Requirement: Defeat Hillock, Brutus, and Merveil.
How to complete: Finish Act 1. Done inside the first hour.
2. Deep Dive π’
Requirement: Visit The Sovereign, place an Allflame Lantern, and chart an area.
How to complete: The Sovereign is reached from the Mud Flats in Act 1, and afterward from any Waypoint or by typing /boat. Talk to Valerie to chart. Unmissable if you engage the league at all.
3. Peddler’s Produce I π’
Requirement: Complete the vendor recipes for Armourer’s Scrap, Blacksmith’s Whetstone, Glassblower’s Bauble, and Gemcutter’s Prism.
How to complete: Sell a 20% quality normal item of each type (armour, weapon, flask, gem), or multiple pieces totalling 40%.
Tip: a single gem at 20% quality (or a few totalling 40%) triggers the Gemcutter’s Prism recipe, so hang onto any quality gem that drops while leveling instead of selling it off.
4. Act Adversaries I π’
Requirement: Defeat the Act 1-5 bosses (Merveil, Vaal Oversoul, Dominus, Malachai, Kitava).
How to complete: These are the main story bosses for each act, so you’ll beat them all just by finishing the campaign.
5. Possessive Pantheons π’
Requirement: Defeat the eight Pantheon bosses across Acts 6-9 (Tukohama, Abberath, Ryslatha, Ralakesh, Gruthkul, Yugul, Shakari, Garukhan).
How to complete: Most come from the main questline, and a few are optional side bosses. Each one also grants a passive skill point, so they’re worth the detour anyway.
Tip: after you kill Kitava in Act 10, type /passives in chat to confirm you’ve claimed every point and didn’t miss a boss. The two most commonly skipped are Abberath and Ryslatha in Act 6.
6. Underwater Undertaking π’
Requirement: Chart four areas, complete a Voyage, and craft an item with Dead Man’s Sulphur.
How to complete: The league tutorial walks you straight through all three. Your first Voyage is a 2×2 board (4 charts). Later ones are 3×3 (9 charts).
7. Act Adversaries II π’
Requirement: Defeat the Act 6-10 bosses (Brine King, Arakaali, Lunaris and Solaris, Depraved Trinity, Kitava).
How to complete: Like the Act 1-5 bosses, these are mandatory story kills you clear by finishing the campaign.
Phase 2: Atlas Foundations
Your first stretch of mapping. Grab an Atlas passive tree that forces a couple of mechanics and most of these tick over on their own.
8. Atlas Accomplishment π’
Requirement: Complete all 100 non-unique maps on the Atlas.
How to complete: For white and yellow maps, Normal or Magic rarity counts. Red maps (tier 11+) only count once they’re corrupted. Run a red map uncorrupted and it won’t register. Use the Atlas Bonus Objective tracker to see which maps you still need.
Tip: keep the red maps cheap and safe. Transmute a red-tier map, Regal it, then Vaal to corrupt. That leaves it with the fewest possible modifiers, so the corrupted reds are quick and safe to clear.
9. Ingrained Increases π’
Requirement: Complete any three of Essence, Strongboxes, Shrines, Possessed Monsters, Rogue Exiles, or Beyond, 30 times each.
How to complete: Force your chosen three with Atlas passives and cheap scarabs (Essence, Domination, Anarchy, Beyond).
Tip: Shrines, Essences, and Strongboxes are the easiest three to pick. They’re common, quick to trigger, and force cleanly with Atlas passives and cheap scarabs.
10. Legendary Leagues π’
Requirement: Complete any five of twelve returning mechanics the listed number of times (Abyss, Expedition, Harvest, Legion, Delirium, and more).
How to complete: Recommended five: Smuggler’s Caches, Delirium Mirrors, and Ore Deposits are the easiest, one click each and simple to force with scarabs. Add Mercenaries, since other challenges need them anyway so you complete two at once. Leave the fifth as your own pick.
14. Chromatic Crafting π’
Requirement: Use 10 Chromatic Orbs, hold 15 coloured sockets on your gear, and reach 60% quality on a socketed gem.
How to complete: For the 15 coloured sockets, buy five cheap pieces on trade that each have three coloured sockets. For the 60% quality gem, the cheapest route is a Replica Voideye: put a 20% quality gem into a matching-colour socket and you reach 60% (30% from the Voideye, 20% from the gem, 10% from the colour match). Crest of Desire and Ashes of the Stars can top you up if you need more.
18. Achieve Ascension π’
Requirement: Complete Normal, Cruel, Merciless, and Eternal Labyrinths, and gain a Bloodline Class from any bloodline boss.
How to complete: The Eternal Labyrinth needs an Offering to the Goddess, so buy one on trade instead of hunting trials. For the bloodline class, if you’re going for #28 Bountiful Bloodlines you’ll pick this up along the way.
19. Devious Divination π’
Requirement: Complete any three of: open 40 Stacked Decks, hand in 30 divination card sets, run 10 red maps with a Divination Scarab, scry a map.
How to complete: Sort by stack size on poe.ninja to find cheap high-count cards. To scry a map, buy a cheap Scrying Orb on trade. Skip the 30 divination card sets task, since it means sourcing and handing in full sets by hand.
Tip: the Divination Scarab of the Cloister drops Stacked Decks, letting you double-dip two tasks at once.
20. Peddler’s Produce II π’
Requirement: Complete the Unique, Scarab, and Tier 16 Map vendor recipes five times each.
How to complete: Sell three of the same non-corrupted unique for a re-roll, three scarabs for a random one, and three T15 maps for a T16. Do each recipe five times.
25. Corrupted Crystals π’
Requirement: Complete any three of: level 10 gems to 20, hold 20 corrupted gems, corrupt a gem to 21 or 23% quality, level a Pact gem to 20.
How to complete: Level a gem to 20 by leveling it normally or in your offhand. A Facetor’s Lens or a 5-way rota speeds this up. Hold 20 corrupted gems by buying cheap ones and socketing them into your gear. Corrupt a gem to 21 or 23% quality by Vaaling your own level-20 gems, though the roll can take a while.
Tip: skip the Pact gem task, the new caster gems aren’t worth the cost here.
Phase 3: The Allflame League
The heart of the league: charts, Voyages, the Sovereign, and mercenaries. Cash in charts every few maps so you don’t drown in a backlog of chores.
12. Nautical Navigation π’
Requirement: Complete 10 Voyages, defeat 200 rare monsters inside them, and craft equipment with Dead Man’s Sulphur 50,000 times.
How to complete: You’ll need at least 90 chart pieces to run 10 Voyages. The 200 rare kills come naturally while you clear those Voyages, and you’ll pick up plenty of Dead Man’s Sulphur to hit the crafting count too.
13. Savage Sellswords π’
Requirement: Complete any three mercenary tasks (kills with an allied merc, claiming infamous-mod items, maps with merc scarabs, defeating infamous mercs).
How to complete: Run Trarthan mercenaries with a Trarthan Scarab of Infamy and you can clear all of these in the same maps. Every infamous mercenary drops an infamous item. Hold Alt to spot the ‘Infamy’ or ‘Infamous’ affix and grab it.
Tip: watch out, some infamous mercenaries can one-shot you.
17. Comprehensive Charting π’
Requirement: Complete any nine of the 14 Chart types.
How to complete: You’ll usually finish this just by doing #12. If you come up short, look up the specific chart types you’re still missing and buy them individually on trade.
Tip: if you need a specific chart like Diving Shoals, search it on trade by name and buy it.
22. Ethereal Enhancements π’
Requirement: Use any five of the nine Cursed Ducats on The Sovereign.
How to complete: Ducats are very cheap right now, and finishing this just means crafting with Dead Man’s Sulphur, which you get plenty of from Voyages. It also adds to the Sulphur count for #12.
Tip: the Changeling’s Ducat gives you a random named Ducat if you’re short a type.
27. Superior Sovereign π‘
Requirement: Install all five ship upgrades: Deadcaller Bellows, Sulphur Purifier, Spectral Infuser, Alchemical Exchange, and Forbidden Scripture.
How to complete: These upgrades are part of the league story, so you’ll unlock them as you work through the questline. Each comes from a specific league action, from running charts to defeating the league boss via a Kishara’s Rest chart. Prioritise them anyway, since they boost your league returns.
32. Fathomless Fears π‘
Requirement: Complete Voyages carrying nine different Border Modifiers.
How to complete: You’ll usually finish this just from doing #12. Borders can’t be filtered or bought, so read each Voyage yourself and reroll by finishing a Voyage or spending Dead Man’s Sulphur.
Tip: keep a notepad of which borders you’ve cleared, the in-game tracker won’t tell you.
Phase 4: Endgame Juicing
The bulk of your 40/40 lives here. Stack mechanic-forcing scarabs and juice your maps so a single run pushes several challenges at once.
11. Trustworthy Teachers π‘
Requirement: Complete any two master missions (Niko, Einhar, Jun, Alva) in Tier 16 maps at 80%+ quantity, 10 times each.
How to complete: Niko is easiest since tagging sulphite adds no difficulty. Alva is second since you can leave incursions instantly.
Tip: buy both scarabs and run them together so you clear both masters in one map.
15. Vanquished Villains π‘
Requirement: Socket four Voidstones by defeating the Eater of Worlds and Searing Exarch, Shaper and Elder (or Uber Elder), the Maven, and the Incarnation of Dread.
How to complete: This is standard endgame progression, and every Voidstone is buyable as a carry if you’d rather not fight the bosses yourself.
Tip: don’t forget to socket them to count π
16. Taxing Tasks π‘
Requirement: Complete any five of eleven encounters at area level 81+ (Abyssal Depths, Logbooks, Harvest seeds, Domains, Blueprints, Simulacrum, Ultimatums, Blight, and more).
How to complete: Force Abyssal Depths and Harvest seeds with their scarabs. For Blight, anoint teal oil to cut each map to around two minutes. Breach, take the Enemy at the Gates keystone plus the unstable breach nodes to clear it fast. For Legion, run a 5-way rota or just do the Legion emblems yourself three times.
Tip: for Blight, anoint a Silver + Opalescent ring for chilling towers and a Violet + Indigo ring for burning ground.
21. Challenging Curators π‘
Requirement: Defeat any six of eight listed bosses at level 80+.
How to complete: Atziri needs Mortal fragments. The Abyssal Lich spawns from Abyssal Atlas points plus scarabs. Buy the Omnitect on trade by filtering for an ‘Apex of Atzoatl’ with the room set to Open. Expedition bosses can be searched and bought outright. For Izaro, buy a Gift, Dedication, or Tribute to the Goddess, which opens a level 83 Labyrinth to clear. Beyond bosses spawn with Beyond scarabs.
Tip: if the Black Knight won’t drop in maps, skip the Kingsmarch bosses and the Vox Twins. They’re RNG-heavy and not worth chasing.
23. Remarkable Realms π‘
Requirement: Complete any 15 of 18 unique maps.
How to complete: Most are a single chaos on trade (MaelstrΓΆm of Chaos, Acton’s Nightmare, Death and Taxes, and so on).
Tip: skip Hall of the Grandmasters (needs stacked characters) and Doryani’s Machinarium (expensive).
24. Stacked Scarabs π‘
Requirement: Apply 750 scarabs across your maps.
How to complete: There’s no tier or quantity requirement, so any scarabs count. With a fully upgraded map device you run 5 scarabs a map, which clears 750 in about 150 maps. If you haven’t been juicing, just run cheap scarabs from your stash on normal maps and the count adds up on its own.
Tip: make sure the scarabs you run don’t brick your maps, like ones that strip prefixes or suffixes and cut your item quantity.
26. Cross Contamination π‘
Requirement: Complete any four of six mechanic combos (a merc while Delirious, a possessed Rogue Exile with a merc, an Astrolabe-influenced map, and more).
How to complete: None have a tier or quantity requirement, so pick the four easiest. For a merc while Delirious, drop a Delirium and a Mercenary scarab, take the mirror, and kill the merc (a Delirium Orb gives you unlimited Delirium if you need it). The Exiled Will keystone spawns possessed Rogue Exiles for that combo. For the Astrolabe combo, run an astrolabe on an Originator-influenced map. For the Abyss Consort, use an Abyss Scarab of the Consort and spawn Shrines with Atlas or Domination scarabs.
Tip: skip the remaining two combos, they aren’t worth forcing.
28. Bountiful Bloodlines π‘
Requirement: Defeat any seven of twelve bloodline bosses.
How to complete: Each boss has its own trigger. Farrul needs the unique Farrul, First of the Plains. Take it to Einhar’s base and open the lair through the beast recipe. King in the Mists needs An Audience with the King. Oshabi needs a Sacred Blossom. Trialmaster comes from an Ultimatum Scarab of Dueling. Velka spawns through the league story, or force one with a Kishara’s Rest chart. Lycia is the Sanctum boss, Aul the Delve boss, Catarina the Heist Mastermind, Olroth the Expedition boss, and Zorath the new Abyss boss. Buy carries for any you can’t reach, or self-farm the Breach and Simulacrum bosses if your build handles them.
Tip: buy the Simulacrum kill, all 15 waves is by far the hardest one on the list.
29. Astounding Astrolabes π‘
Requirement: Complete six different Astrolabe types in T16 rare maps with 5 scarabs applied, 30 times each.
How to complete: Buy the astrolabes you need instead of grinding for them. On poe.ninja, open the Economy section, search ‘Astrolabes’, and sort by Value to find the cheapest types. Prices climb as the league goes on, so the earlier you finish this, the cheaper it is.
30. Modified Maps π‘
Requirement: Accumulate 3,000 explicit modifiers from completed maps.
How to complete: This is likely the last challenge you finish, since it needs so many maps. The absolute minimum is 375 maps (3,000 modifiers at 8 per map), and you’ll bank most of it passively while doing everything else. Leave it for last, then top off the remainder by buying 8-mod maps.
Tip: you can also skip this one if you’re only going for 36/40. Make sure those 8-mod maps don’t roll something that bricks your build.
31. Excruciating Echoes π‘
Requirement: Complete any two of four tasks in T16 rare maps at 150%+ quantity.
How to complete: This gets easy if you juice every map on the way to your final map for high item quantity. Every map Eagon gives you counts as an Originator map, so those tick toward the 30-map task on their own while you push one of the other three. Build quantity from Atlas points, Mortal and Sacrifice fragments, corrupted 8-mod maps, and Eater or Exarch altars. Aim for 80-90% quantity per map, and use Exalted Orbs to top it up.
33. Intrigued Interlopers π‘
Requirement: Complete any two of three altar/witness tasks in T16 rare maps.
How to complete: The Maven task is the easy one. Spec Destructive Play so you fight several bosses per map, since each boss counts on its own. A map with multiple bosses like City Square can give you 5-6 in a single run. For the second task, pick either Exarch or Eater, respec their keystone, and roll your maps to 40-45% pack size. More monsters means more altars, and you need 4 boss-altar choices to hit the count.
34. Potent Possibilities π‘
Requirement: Use any ten of twenty listed currencies.
How to complete: Prices climb as the league goes on and more people chase these currencies, so do it sooner rather than later. On poe.ninja, open the Currency section, sort by lowest value, and work through the cheapest ten.
Tip: avoid the pricey ones like the Mirror of Kalandra and Hinekora’s Lock. You could wait for the end of the league when prices crash, but there’s no guarantee they will.
35. Succinct Summons π‘
Requirement: Complete 30 Invitations carrying at least five explicit modifiers.
How to complete: Run either the Writhing Invitation or the Polaric Invitation to finish this cheaply. The other invitations are high effort and too expensive to bother with.
36. Atlas Assertions π΄
Requirement: Complete any six of eleven random Atlas encounters (Forgotten Shrine, Gambling District, River’s End, and more).
How to complete: Each of these has a chance to spawn when you complete a map, and every encounter is locked to a specific Atlas quadrant. For example, the Gambling District only shows up in the bottom-left quadrant when you complete bottom-left maps like City Square and Cemetery. So to get a specific encounter, run maps in its quadrant. You need all Voidstones socketed first.
Tip: some maps have easy-to-find bosses, which makes them convenient for fishing these encounters. Recommended maps by quadrant:
| Quadrant | Best maps | Encounters unlocked |
| Bottom Left | City Square, Mesa, Cemetery | Planned Heist, Gambling District, The Manor Foyer |
| Bottom Right | Dunes | The Court of Chaos, Uncharted Expedition |
| Top Left | Atoll, Strand | Untainted Paradise, Syndicate Hideout, River’s End |
| Top Right | Beach | Forgotten Shrine, Lake Islet, Overgrown Grove |
Phase 5: The Final Push
The four hardest challenges. You only need 36/40 for the cosmetics, so treat everything here as optional unless you’re chasing the totem.
37. Brinerot’s Bloody Bounty π΄
Requirement: Defeat Velka, the Tide Witch three separate times, each without being hit by a specific attack.
How to complete: Either buy a boss carry, or bring a build with enough damage to blast through Velka and her pet Cressie. Killing them fast clears most of these conditions in one go.
Tip: to solo it, buy a chart with Kishara’s Rest to spawn the league boss. Inside the Voyage, look for the map section shaped like a skull, that’s where Velka is. No Kishara’s Rest on the chart means no boss, and you only need one.
38. Horrific Halls π΄
Requirement: Complete two Nightmare Maps at 150%+ quantity, fully corrupted, with 5 scarabs and Delirium Orbs applied.
How to complete: This is the absolute hardest challenge on the list. It’s brutal for builds that can’t kill ubers and close to impossible without huge single-target damage. If you’re going for 36/40, skip it. For 40/40, buy a boss carry.
Tip: to solo it, Fortress is the easiest Nightmare Map since its boss is lenient, with Abomination or Sanctuary as a second pick. The map needs to be 100% delirious (5 Delirium Orbs) and hit 150% total item quantity from in-map altars, plus 5 scarabs. Avoid any scarab that strips prefixes or suffixes, since that can cost you quantity. Also don’t run Meticulous Appraiser, or your item quantity converts to rarity and won’t count.
39. Apex Assailants π΄
Requirement: Defeat any five of ten Uber Pinnacle Bosses at area level 85.
How to complete: The three Incarnation bosses plus Shaper and Elder should get you there. Other decent picks are Sirus, the Eater of Worlds, and Venarius in Cortex. Avoid the Searing Exarch, who can spam his fireball phase and get nasty, and skip the Maven too. Buy carries for anything you can’t farm reliably.
40. Gallant Grinding Goals π΄
Requirement: Complete any four of six heavy grinds (reach level 100, 150 Uber Lab darkshrines, 30 pinnacle kills, and more).
How to complete: Four picks make this manageable. For the pinnacle kills, farm any one Incarnation and 30 comes quickly. Two more happen on their own: 400 rare kills in Voyages while you do the other Nautical challenges, and 50 corrupted 8-mod maps while you juice. For the fourth, pick either 150 Lab darkshrines or level 100, since buying carries for the 40 Nightmare Maps gets expensive if your build can’t run them.
Tip: never take an Omen of Amelioration into invitations or uber fights, it triggers on entry even when no XP is at risk.
The 36/40 Skip Plan
Stopping at 36 costs you nothing but the totem and the top trophy tier. The four cleanest challenges to drop:
- #38 Horrific Halls: brutal juiced corrupted delirious Nightmare Maps, not realistic without a god-tier build
- #39 Apex Assailants: the uber bossing gate, an easy skip if you don’t uber
- #37 Brinerot’s Bloody Bounty: a slow conditional grind from the chart-to-Voyage chain per attempt
- #30 Modified Maps or #40 Gallant Grinding Goals: whichever grind you have less patience for
General Strategy
Cash in charts often. The Allflame mechanic’s one flaw is flow. It’s easy to auto-place lanterns while mapping, never visit the boat, then get buried under a pile of charts. Empty the queue every few maps, and remember you need at least 90 charts to run the 10 Voyages for #12.
Run 8-mod maps early with 5 scarabs. Getting into fully juiced 8-mod maps as soon as you can makes a lot of these challenges faster and easier to knock out together.
Buy scarabs in bulk once prices settle a week or two post-launch, then stack mechanic-forcing scarabs with matching Atlas passives to double-dip challenges and currency in the same maps.
Trade over farm for boss fragments, unique maps, astrolabes, logbooks, invitations, and influenced gear. Buying is almost always faster than self-farming these.
Poe.ninja is your best friend. Use it to get the best value on anything you buy. For the item and currency challenges, sort by lowest value first and work your way up.
Use public boss rotas through the trade and global channels to blitz invitation, uber, and bloodline challenges as a group.
Type /recheck_achievements whenever a challenge looks stuck. The tracker occasionally desyncs after events or crashes.
Final Word
Curse of the Allflame is one of the more approachable challenge sets in recent memory. The first 30-odd challenges fall out of normal play if you keep your Atlas tree pointed at a few forced mechanics and empty your chart queue regularly. That leaves a short list of deliberate grinds between you and 36/40, and only four genuinely demanding challenges standing between 36 and the full totem.
Set your target early. If you’re not an uber player, plan around 36 and don’t stress the final four. If you’re going for the totem, front-load the grind-heavy challenges so the RNG-gated ones have all league to resolve.
