Throwing the wrong sphere is the fastest way to waste materials and lose a rare Pal. Each tier adds capture power, but the best sphere is not always the one you should use. This guide ranks every Pal Sphere in Palworld 1.0 by capture power, lists the unlock level and crafting cost for each, and shows you when to reach for which.
Quick Answer
Pal Spheres climb through ten tiers, each adding capture power (your base catch strength), from the basic Pal Sphere (7) all the way up to the Ancient Sphere (64), the best sphere in the game. Higher is stronger, but capture power is only one factor. Weaken the Pal and apply a status effect first, and a cheaper sphere often lands the catch, saving your best spheres for the toughest targets.
Every Pal Sphere Tier
| Sphere | Unlock Level | Capture Power | Key Materials |
| Pal Sphere | 2 | 7 | Paldium Fragment x1, Wood x3, Stone x3 |
| Mega Sphere | 14 | 14 | Paldium Fragment x1, Ingot x1, Wood x5, Stone x5 |
| Giga Sphere | 20 | 20 | Paldium Fragment x2, Ingot x2, Wood x7, Stone x7 |
| Hyper Sphere | 27 | 26 | Paldium Fragment x3, Ingot x3, Wood x10, Cement x2 |
| Ultra Sphere | 35 | 33 | Paldium Fragment x5, Refined Ingot x5, Carbon Fiber x2, Cement x3 |
| Legendary Sphere | 44 | 38 | Paldium Fragment x10, Pal Metal Ingot x5, Carbon Fiber x3, Cement x5 |
| Ultimate Sphere | 51 | 44 | Paldium Fragment x10, Pal Metal Ingot x5, Hardwood x10, Plasteel x1 |
| Exotic Sphere | 58 | 50 | Paldium Fragment x15, Plasteel x1, Hardwood x10, Hexolite x1 |
| Sol Sphere | 67 | 58 | Paldium Fragment x30, Soralite Ingot x2, Hardwood x10 |
| Ancient Sphere | 74 | 64 | Paldium Fragment x30, Paloxite Ingot x6, Mythical Wood x3 |
The top four spheres (Ultimate, Exotic, Sol, and Ancient) are the real 1.0 endgame. They are crafted at the Ancient Workbench (the Ultimate Sphere can also use a Sphere Assembly Line II or Advanced Sphere Assembly Line), and the Sol and Ancient Spheres use World Tree and Sunreach materials like Paloxite Ingot and Mythical Wood. The Ancient Sphere (capture power 64) is the strongest catching tool in the game.
When to Use Each Sphere
Matching the sphere to the situation saves you a fortune in materials:
- Early game (level 1 to 20): Pal Sphere, Mega, and Giga cover everything you meet. Do not overthink it, just keep a stack.
- Mid game (level 20 to 40): Hyper and Ultra Spheres handle the bulk of catching. This is where weakening matters, since raw sphere power alone stops being enough.
- Late game (level 40+): Legendary and Ultimate Spheres for rare Pals, Alphas, and legendaries. Do not waste them on common catches.
- Endgame (World Tree and Sunreach): Exotic, Sol, and Ancient Spheres, crafted at the Ancient Workbench, for the highest-level catches. The Ancient Sphere (capture power 64) is your best shot at the toughest Pals.
Tip: keep two sphere types on you, a cheap one for routine catches and a premium one for rare targets. Throwing an Ancient Sphere at a trash Pal burns Paloxite Ingot and Mythical Wood you will want for the catches that actually matter.
Capture Power Is Only Half the Story
The sphere is your base strength, but four other things swing the catch just as much:
- Low HP. The closer a Pal is to fainting, the higher your odds. Weaken it first.
- Status effects. Stun, freeze, or sleep give a big catch bonus on top of low HP.
- Back throws. Hitting a Pal from behind boosts the catch chance, so circle around before you throw.
- Level gap. Catching Pals near or below your level is far easier than punching up.
Stack these and a mid-tier sphere often catches something you would otherwise need a Legendary for.
Tip: equip the Ring of Mercy so your own attacks cannot drop a Pal below 1 HP while you weaken it, then apply a status. Just watch out for Poison or Burn, which can still finish the Pal off. See our Best Weapons guide for catching gear.
Boost Your Base Capture Power
Your capture power is not fixed. Lifmunk Effigies raise it permanently at the Statue of Power across 15 ranks, so collecting them makes every sphere stronger. If you are struggling to catch things, pour effigies into Capture Power early. See our Lifmunk Effigy guide for how that works after the 1.0 rework.

FAQ
What is the best Pal Sphere in Palworld 1.0? The Ancient Sphere (capture power 64), crafted at the Ancient Workbench at tech level 74. It is the top of a ten-tier ladder. That said, weakening a Pal and adding a status effect matters as much as the sphere tier.
What order do Pal Spheres unlock in? Pal Sphere (2), Mega (14), Giga (20), Hyper (27), Ultra (35), Legendary (44), Ultimate (51), Exotic (58), Sol (67), and Ancient (74).
Do I always use the best sphere? No. Weaken the Pal and apply a status effect first, and a cheaper sphere usually works. Save Legendary Spheres for rare and high-level targets.
How do I increase my capture power? Use higher-tier spheres and collect Lifmunk Effigies, which permanently raise your Capture Power at the Statue of Power.
