Hard Mode tower bosses are the tougher rematch versions of Palworld’s tower bosses. They hit harder, have far bigger health pools, and they drop the legendary weapon schematics, including the Plasma Rifle. One thing to clear up first: these rematches are a post-game unlock, not the “Hard” world difficulty setting. You can fight them and get the legendary drops on any world difficulty, even Normal or Casual. This guide covers how to unlock them and how to beat all nine.
Quick Answer
Hard Mode tower bosses unlock after you clear the eight faction towers (ending with Auri and Shaolong). Once unlocked, go back to any cleared tower and pick the hard mode option. Fight them in level order, bring a Pal that counters each boss’s element, and watch the five-minute timer. The rematch bosses are much higher level and tankier, but their elements and weaknesses are the same as the normal versions, so the counters below still apply. The final boss, Zenara and Astralym, is typeless with no weakness, so it comes down to raw gear and level.
How to Unlock Hard Mode Tower Bosses
This is the part people get wrong. Hard Mode tower bosses have nothing to do with the “Hard” world difficulty setting. They are a separate post-game feature:
- Beat the eight faction tower bosses on any difficulty (the last is Auri and Shaolong).
- Return to any cleared tower entrance.
- Choose the hard mode prompt to start the tougher rematch.
You keep your normal world settings the whole time. You do not need to turn on the punishing Hard world preset (with its harsh death penalty) to farm these. Stay on Normal and you can still get every legendary schematic these bosses drop.
Worth knowing: Hard Mode tower bosses drop the new 1.0 legendary schematics (Plasma Rifle, Beam Launcher, Drone Launcher, Beam Scatter, and Ancient Armors). The classic legendaries are elsewhere: the Rocket Launcher, Assault Rifle, and Pump-Action Shotgun drop from open-world Alpha bosses (Jetragon, Blazamut, and Suzaku) at around 3%, not from these towers.
All Tower Bosses at a Glance
| Order | Boss | Element | Weakness | Rec. Level |
| 1 | Zoe and Grizzbolt | Electric | Ground | 10 |
| 2 | Lily and Lyleen | Grass | Fire | 20 |
| 3 | Axel and Orserk | Electric/Dragon | Ice or Ground | 30 |
| 4 | Marcus and Faleris | Fire | Water | 40 |
| 5 | Victor and Shadowbeak | Dark | Dragon | 50 |
| 6 | Saya and Selyne | Dark/Neutral | Dark or Dragon | 55 |
| 7 | Bjorn and Bastigor | Ice | Fire | 60 |
| 8 | Auri and Shaolong | Water/Dragon | Electric or Ice | 68 |
| 9 | Zenara and Astralym | Typeless | None | 80 |
Note: those are the base (normal) levels. The Hard Mode rematch versions are much higher level with far bigger health pools (Saya and Selyne, for example, reach around Level 80 in the rematch). The elements and weaknesses stay the same.
General Prep for Hard Mode Towers
- Match the counter element for each boss (see the list below).
- Bring your best armor. Hard Mode damage is unforgiving.
- Pack healing and ammo for the full five minutes.
- Level up first. Under-leveling plus Hard Mode scaling means you run out the timer before the boss drops.
Tip: these fights have a five-minute timer, so in co-op a laggy connection can cost you the clock on a boss you were about to beat. If online play stutters, a connection tool like GearUP can steady it. Solo players do not need it.
Every Tower Boss and How to Beat It
1. Zoe and Grizzbolt (Electric, weak to Ground)
The tutorial fight. Bring Ground-type Pals and you will barely feel the timer. Good place to learn the dodge-and-shoot rhythm.
2. Lily and Lyleen (Grass, weak to Fire)
Fire damage-over-time melts Lyleen. Keep moving to avoid the grass attacks and let the burn tick.
3. Axel and Orserk (Electric/Dragon, weak to Ice or Ground)
A step up in damage. Ice is the cleaner counter. Keep your distance and punish openings.
4. Marcus and Faleris (Fire, weak to Water)
Faleris is an airborne phoenix, so a ranged weapon helps you chip it between dives. Water Pals do the heavy lifting.
5. Victor and Shadowbeak (Dark, weak to Dragon)
The first big difficulty spike. Bring your strongest Dragon team and good armor. Do not greed for damage, survive first.
6. Saya and Selyne (Dark/Neutral, weak to Dark or Dragon)
Faster than Shadowbeak. This is the boss that drops the Legendary Plasma Rifle schematic in Hard Mode, so you will farm this one. Because they are part Neutral, they take extra damage from Dark as well as Dragon. In Hard Mode a Dark team is often the better call: strong Dark Pals like Bellanoir Libero or Shadowbeak melt them while resisting their Neutral attacks, and you dodge the Ice moves that would punish a Dragon team.
7. Bjorn and Bastigor (Ice, weak to Fire)
Fire thaws the freeze effects that would otherwise lock you up. Clearing this opens the later towers.
8. Auri and Shaolong (Water/Dragon, weak to Electric or Ice)
Play aggressively and burn it down fast. Beating this is also a step in the Panthalus questline.
9. Zenara and Astralym (Typeless, no weakness)
The final tower. There is no element to exploit, so it is a pure gear-and-level check. You need all eight faction towers cleared and the Panthalus quest done to reach it. Bring your best everything.
The Hard Mode rematch is a superboss. Titled Blightstar Calamity Zenara and Astralym, it jumps to Level 100 with 5,030,099 HP, roughly 12 times the normal version’s ~420,000. This deliberately breaks the level 80 player and Pal cap, so treat it as a true endgame JRPG-style superboss. You need a max-level, fully geared team, top legendary weapons, and a lot of ammo to burn through that health bar inside the timer. Do not attempt it until everything else is done.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Ignoring the counter element. Off-element teams cannot beat the timer in Hard Mode.
- Under-leveling. Hard Mode scaling punishes it hard.
- Letting the timer run. If you are not doing enough damage, back out, level, and return.
