Split Fiction only has 20 Steam achievements, and that short list hides a genuinely generous design decision: every achievement, even the missable-sounding ones, can be picked up later through chapter select. Nothing here demands a fresh playthrough. The real challenge sits entirely with Cold Potato, a seven-round minigame you must clear flawlessly in one attempt, and with tracking down all 12 side stories and 6 benches scattered across the campaign.
Quick Stats
- Total Achievements: 20
- Estimated Completion Time: 12-15 hours for a full playthrough covering the main story and all side content
- Difficulty: Easy to Medium overall, with one genuine outlier in Cold Potato
- Online Required: No, but the entire game is co-op only and cannot be finished single-player

Achievement names, unlock rates, and rarity below come directly from Steam’s own achievement data. Unlock requirements below are based on our own testing and verified trophy data.
Story Progression
BFF’s
Unlock Rate: 27.9% (Rare)
Requirement: Finally published
How to Unlock: Complete the main story. This unlocks automatically for both players during the credits after the Final Showdown boss in Chapter 8, “Split.”
Tips: This is the only truly unmissable achievement in the game. The final stage has extremely generous checkpoints, so you won’t lose progress even if you struggle with the last boss.
Side Story and Collectible Achievements
Bookworms
Unlock Rate: 18.4% (Rare)
Requirement: Complete all side stories
How to Unlock: Find and complete all 12 side stories, accessed through glowing portal spheres scattered across Chapters 2 through 5. Eleven are on the main path and Zoe or Mio will call them out through dialogue. Only the third side story in Neon Revenge, Mountain Hike, sits off the obvious path.
Tips: To find Mountain Hike, look for the portable toilets during the traffic jam section. Have one player sit in a toilet while the other uses Zoe’s gravity whip to throw it at the structure across the road, which knocks loose a blocked staircase leading to the portal. You can track completion through chapter select, where finished side stories show a checkmark icon instead of a question mark.
Sisters: A Tale Of Two Besties
Unlock Rate: 3.5% (Ultra Rare)
Requirement: Relax on all 6 benches
How to Unlock: Find and sit on all six benches scattered throughout the game, letting both characters finish their dialogue each time. The first bench appears in Chapter 2’s Big City Life section, reached by grappling onto a pole after the pool sequence following the car chase.
Tips: These benches are a direct reference to Hazelight’s first game, Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons. You must let the full dialogue play out each time for it to count, so don’t stand up early. Chapter select makes cleanup easy if you miss any on your first run.
Farmlife Side Story
Goin’ Whole Hog
Unlock Rate: 8.3% (Very Rare)
Requirement: Let it rip
How to Unlock: In the Farmlife side story, found through the Streets of Neon mission in Chapter 2, control Mio as a pig with a fart-flying ability. Turn left after passing a giant strawberry and use Mio’s fart ability to launch into the belly of a huge hog lying in the mud.
Tips: This is the first of two achievements in the Farmlife side story, so make sure to complete this one before continuing to Huffing and Puffing in the same area.
Huffing and Puffing
Unlock Rate: 26.6% (Rare)
Requirement: It’s not the big bad wolf you have to worry about
How to Unlock: Continuing from Goin’ Whole Hog in the same Farmlife side story, find a brick house further along the path. Go behind it as Mio and use her fart ability to blow the house down.
Tips: This is a clear Three Little Pigs reference. Complete the rest of the side story normally afterward to make sure it registers as finished for your Bookworms progress too.
Neon Revenge Achievements
Robot Revolution
Unlock Rate: 29.2% (Rare)
Requirement: Hasta la vista, baby
How to Unlock: After solving the portable toilet puzzle in the Big City Life section, enter the hotel lobby and find the robot receptionist behind the counter. Either player can hit the robot repeatedly until it reacts.
Tips: The robot will eventually turn hostile and attack once its face changes to an angry red, so be ready to defend yourselves right after the achievement pops.
You Are Not a Robot
Unlock Rate: 3.3% (Ultra Rare)
Requirement: Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart
How to Unlock: At the end of the motorcycle chase sequence in Neon Revenge, Zoe must complete a timed CAPTCHA minigame on her phone before a countdown expires. Swipe to unlock the phone, keep her face centered for facial recognition, skip all three CAPTCHA challenges, click the highlighted Terms and Conditions link, then mash Next repeatedly until an unknown caller rings and decline the call.
Tips: This sequence is intentionally chaotic and designed to make you fail the first few tries. Stay calm and follow the steps in order rather than panicking, since the timer is more forgiving than it initially feels.
Are We the Baddies?
Unlock Rate: 7.8% (Very Rare)
Requirement: No worries, it’s just a simulation
How to Unlock: During the Play Me Techno section of Chapter 2, Zoe needs to catch a grenade Mio throws from underneath a bridge, then throw it back above herself so it detonates near a glass collection point, breaking the window.
Tips: This happens early in the same chapter as the first side story and the Rose’s Best Friend achievement, so you can knock out several achievements in one pass through this section.
Rose’s Best Friend
Unlock Rate: 17.5% (Rare)
Requirement: Secret achievement
How to Unlock: Further down the same path in Neon Revenge, find a toy shop with a giant stuffed elephant named Cutie on the sign. Use Zoe’s gravity whip to rip off the elephant’s leg and ear.
Tips: This is a direct reference to the giant elephant from Hazelight’s previous game, It Takes Two. It’s easy to miss if you’re rushing through this section, so keep an eye out for the toy shop signage.
Moon Market Side Story
Chair the Load
Unlock Rate: 12.5% (Very Rare)
Requirement: Get off me…
How to Unlock: In the Moon Market side story, found through the Test Chamber mission in Chapter 4, turn left after entering the market to find a wand. Use it to zap your co-op partner, which randomly transforms them into a chair. Once they’re a chair, sit on them.
Tips: The transformation is random, so you may need to zap your partner a few times before it triggers. Be patient and keep trying rather than assuming something is broken.
Potion Chef
Unlock Rate: 15.2% (Rare)
Requirement: I need your strongest potions
How to Unlock: In the same Moon Market side story, find potion ingredients scattered around the area and use the alchemy station to craft every available potion.
Tips: Do this in the same visit as Chair the Load since both achievements live in the same side story and you won’t want to backtrack for missed ingredients.
Isolation Chapter Achievements
Locked Up
Unlock Rate: 17.5% (Rare)
Requirement: No way out
How to Unlock: During the Cell Blocks section of Chapter 6, Isolation, after clearing the laser maze, one character enters the prison cell at the end while the other seals the cage door shut using the nearby console.
Tips: This is a separate reference from Hazelight’s other game, A Way Out, despite the similar prison theme. Make sure the door is fully closed on your partner to trigger the achievement.
Tazed and Confused
Unlock Rate: 17.3% (Rare)
Requirement: Adding insult to injury
How to Unlock: In the same Cell Blocks section, one player hacks the tazer bot and extends its arm to help the other player cross a gap. After your partner crosses, retract the arm, then aim it at your partner again and extend it to zap them.
Tips: Some players report needing to swing the extended arm into their partner like a bat instead of just extending it toward them if the direct method doesn’t register. Try both approaches if the achievement doesn’t pop right away.
We’re Gonna Need a Bigger Boat
Unlock Rate: 3.7% (Ultra Rare)
Requirement: Duuuun dun… duuuun dun…
How to Unlock: In the Hydration Facility section of Isolation, while Mio is transformed into a boat carrying Zoe as a ball, float over a spot where the water is visibly bubbling before reaching the large rotating pump.
Tips: Just sit through the resulting shark attack cutscene once you’re in the right spot rather than rushing past it.
Snaaaaaaaaake
Unlock Rate: 2.5% (Ultra Rare)
Requirement: Could friendship bloom on the battlefield
How to Unlock: In the prison courtyard section, one player controls a turret while the other navigates as a sphere. After reaching a lift, have the turret player shoot a cardboard box in front of the sphere player rather than leaving it alone.
Tips: This is one of the easiest achievements to walk right past without noticing, since the box looks like an unimportant piece of cover. It’s a nod to Metal Gear Solid’s cardboard box gag.
Hopes of Spring Achievements
Feed Me
Unlock Rate: 32.2% (Uncommon)
Requirement: Take a snack
How to Unlock: During the Rise of the Dragon Realm section, once you gain dragon companions, approach any fruit tree or berry bush and press the interact prompt to feed your dragon.
Tips: This is one of the easiest achievements in the game and will likely happen naturally the first time you spot a fruit tree near your dragon.
A Friendly Push
Unlock Rate: 6.7% (Very Rare)
Requirement: Monkey strong
How to Unlock: In the Underlabs section of Hopes of Spring, find a swing set. While playing as monkey-form Mio, push Zoe while she sits on the swing.
Tips: Simply interact with the swing set while your partner is seated on it as the monkey form Mio for this to trigger.
One Bird, Three Stones
Unlock Rate: 10.4% (Very Rare)
Requirement: You couldn’t have known
How to Unlock: At the very start of the Halls of Ice mission, go upstairs and turn left to find a snowman with three snowballs next to it. As monster-form Mio, interact with all three snowballs. Order doesn’t matter.
Tips: This is easy to miss since it’s tucked away right at the beginning of the level before the main platforming challenges start.
Cold Potato
Unlock Rate: 1.8% (Ultra Rare)
Requirement: Complete the Gameshow without the bomb exploding
How to Unlock: Find the Gameshow side story through the Walking Stick of Doom mission, reached after crossing a suspension bridge in Hopes of Spring. The side story contains seven consecutive rounds of minigames where you toss a bomb back and forth between players. You must clear every round without the bomb exploding in a single attempt.
Tips: This is by far the hardest achievement in the game, reflected in its 1.8% unlock rate, the lowest of any achievement here. If you fail any round, you must restart the entire side story from the beginning. Communicate constantly with your partner and don’t attempt this while tired or distracted, since a single slip in round six or seven means starting over.
Final Dawn Achievement
The Cake is Not a Lie
Unlock Rate: 3.2% (Ultra Rare)
Requirement: Congratulations, the test is now over
How to Unlock: During the Run and Gun section of Chapter 4, Final Dawn, you’ll reach a 2D side-scrolling area with purple teleportation portals. After clearing the enemies guarding this section, find two purple portals close together on the floor. Jump into one to reach a high platform, then jump back into the connecting portal a second time instead of dropping down, which opens a hidden room containing a cake.
Tips: This is a direct reference to Valve’s Portal series. Watch for a secret wall or a flashing light cue near the second or third portal cluster in this section, since the exact portal pairing that hides the room can be easy to miss on a first pass.
5-Phase 100% Completion Roadmap
Phase 1: Main Story Playthrough Play through the full campaign in co-op, naturally picking up BFF’s at the end along with any story-adjacent achievements like Are We the Baddies? and Rose’s Best Friend that sit directly on or near the main path.
Phase 2: Side Story Sweep Use chapter select or a dedicated pass to find and complete all 12 side stories for Bookworms. Pay special attention to Mountain Hike in Neon Revenge, the one side story that isn’t on the obvious path, and complete the Farmlife, Moon Market, and Hopes of Spring side stories in full to also pick up Goin’ Whole Hog, Huffing and Puffing, Chair the Load, Potion Chef, One Bird Three Stones, and A Friendly Push along the way.
Phase 3: Bench and Collectible Cleanup Track down all six benches for Sisters: A Tale Of Two Besties using chapter select, since these are easy to walk past without noticing during normal play.
Phase 4: Chapter-Specific Achievement Hunt Revisit Isolation for Locked Up, Tazed and Confused, We’re Gonna Need a Bigger Boat, and Snaaaaaaaaake, all clustered in the Cell Blocks and Hydration Facility sections. Revisit Neon Revenge for Robot Revolution and You Are Not a Robot, and Final Dawn for The Cake is Not a Lie.
Phase 5: Cold Potato Attempt Save Cold Potato for last since it demands a flawless, focused run through all seven rounds of the Gameshow side story. Attempt this only when both players are alert and ready to communicate clearly, since any single mistake means restarting the entire side story.
Conclusion
Split Fiction’s 20 achievements are refreshingly stress-free thanks to full chapter select support, so nothing here is genuinely missable in the way many co-op games punish you for skipping content. The entire challenge boils down to patience: finding all 12 side stories and 6 benches takes time but no skill, while Cold Potato demands the kind of tight, communicative co-op play the whole game is built around. Budget 12-15 hours for a full playthrough with cleanup, and save Cold Potato for when you and your partner are both fresh and focused rather than at the tail end of a long session.
